I've been sitting on this song for the longest time, primarily because I haven't been able to use Windows Movie Maker lately (it sucks) nor have I been able to find a replacement (I'd like a little help with that, please). Throughout this time, I've been changing instrumentation, mixing, plugins, etc. trying to get it as good as I can get it. I recently figured out how to use Edirol Orchestra, and I changed the instrumentation yet again. However, I feel that my mixing really needs work. May I please get some advice on that, as well as compositional advice if you all have any? Dawning Ultimatum: app.box.com/s/1b4ler8j6kjlejyq91qp7y88x8rsanev

In my opinion, it sounds really good, although perhaps it could use a bit more dynamic contrast/phrasing/building to build excitement, since most of the track seems to be at the same volume. For example, the transition around 1:20 is really nice because it goes to a quieter level in the sense of instrumentation (with the percussion dropping out), but the following build-up would be more interesting if it peaked somewhere, and then you could either make it louder and more vibrant or pull a sforzando and go back to a medium level again. Oftentimes it's satisfying to the listener to have a heavy downbeat at the start of a new section, as well (for example, I hear one cymbal roll at 1:20 which I think is part of the reason that transition works so well, but you could just as easily do it in other sections with a drone on the low brass, or a taiko drum with reverb, or anything like that).
