So I see this folder is empty and I just felt like starting some conversation here. I decided to make this thread as a place where we can all exchange thoughts about free or paid VSTs and other things like presets and websites that might aid your overall music production. So go ahead and start sharing what your favorite thing is. Mine would have to be the free VSTs available at DSK. Just search up DSK VSTs and you will see all these free awesome VSTs that range from strings to synths. I think its a great thing to have and it's free so win win right? Anyway, let the sharing begin!

My go-to synth has always been Harmor. Awesome for synth chords and occasionally leads... I also use 3xOsc probably way more often than I should Also NI Massive from time to time. And Fruity Soundfont Player of course.

Maybe we should have a soundfont library.

I got a bunch of VSTs I use. I mainly use Massive, Sylenth1 and 3xOsc to create my electronic sounds (even though I use 3xOsc mainly for the sub bass only). I've been thinking of buying Harmor too, but haven't done it yet. I also use FM8 and Absynth5 time to time when I want a certain sound (though I can't really use neither of them that well), Sytrus sometimes too. Time to time I might use VSTs such as famisynth or T-Alpha Force Plus. Out of these VSTs only 3xOsc, Sytrus, famisynth and T-Alpha Force Plus are free though. I enjoy Massive and Sylenth1 a lot since you can make lots of different stuff with them and they're not too complex to use either.
For more traditional instruments (piano, electric piano, guitar, strings etc. you know the drill) I use mainly Kontakt 5 and its sound libraries. I might sometimes use soundfonts such as SGM but not that much because I don't see point using them, Kontakt can provide much more realistic and better sound.
For drums and other percussions I mainly use drum samples I've been collecting through Internet for years. I think I got 10GB worth of drum samples right now (over 24 000 samples which isn't that much btw). I have Battery 3 and some drum kits in Kontakt for example but I don't really see any point of using them because it's harder to mix them and make them sound like what you want.
I also have a possibility to record real guitar or bass for example but I don't do that too much. Okay, I think I started to ramble a bit too much here. I'm out!

I found a huge soundfont library on DeviantArt a while back. Apparently most of them are free to use but a couple are "questionable" so I'm always wary about using some of them. Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra is a free creative-commons SFZ library that works with Alchemy Player.

Well, I might as well share what I stumbled on. I never used those in really serious projects though. Mainly messing around. As far as free VSTi synths goes, my favs are Synth1, and Oatmeal. Synth1: veryrandomstreams.blogspot.ca/2012/03/synth1-is-best-free-virtual-instrument.htmlAnd there are a lot of patches (most of them sucks, and are nearly clones of eachothers though, some are pretty cool though): veryrandomstreams.blogspot.ca/2012/03/over-10000-free-patchessounds-for-free.html(There are a bunch of much better individual ones spread around the web though) For some reasons the website of the author for Oatmeal disappeared, but you still can get it from the web archive : web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.bicycle-for-slugs.org/oatmeal38-1.zipAnd patches for oatmeal: www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=133930For soundfonts, there are a lot of decent/good ones. Though, its advised to upgrade to the SFZ format. ( Here's a free VSTi that handles SFZ and SF2 files very well www.plogue.com/products/sforzando/ ): - Evanescense2 / Musyng Kite : www.synthfont.com/punbb/viewtopic.php?id=167 (Both made by the same guy, its creative common, and huge. Evanescense 2 sounds better in many cases IMO, so getting both might be interesting. And you'll want to use a sounfont plugin that isn't fruity sounfont player, because it will crash FL Studio. Instead use direct wave, or the free alternative www.plogue.com/products/sforzando/ ) - General User : www.schristiancollins.com/generaluser.php (its based on fluid, but it got a couple of nice sounding samples. Average quality though) Some good SFZs : - Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra: sso.mattiaswestlund.net/download.html (pick the "(autostatic.com)" link I think. All the others link to a corrupted version that's got weird samples, and is actually missing some..) - These : www.turtlesounds.net/- That piano : www.ivyaudio.com/pianoin162.html- Various instruments: www.anthonydeaton.com/philharmonic.html (Those sounds really good IMO) This page is interesting too : bigcatlists.blogspot.ca/2014/05/totally-free-instrument-by-type.htmlAnd DSK music is selling a really good sample bank for $25, and you can get in pretty much any format you want, SF2, SFZ, kontact etc.. ( I might just buy it one day if I get a little more serious about this hobby ! Or if I get some money to spend. ) : www.dskmusic.com/high-quality-instrumentsHopefully this might be useful to someone else !

Piano One is a great piano VST, wayyy better than FL keys. Also Camelcrusher and Shred 1.06 by AcmeBarGig are great for a whole bunch of different kinds of distortion

I haven't been able to get a good lead electric guitar sound in Garageband...I've tried a number of guitar soundfonts and distortion plugins but they never sound the way I like. Anybody know of a VST that'll get me what I'm looking for? Something like the lead guitar in the Kalos Trainer Battle music in Smash Bros or similar.

Anybody know of a VST that'll get me what I'm looking for? Something like the lead guitar in the Kalos Trainer Battle music in Smash Bros or similar. I have come to the point where I am never fully satisfied by guitar VSTi anymore. Professional work like that will feature real guitar work, and emulating it is a very challenging task. That being said, the best guitar VSTi I have ever used was Shreddage II by Impact Soundworks. It is not free, however, and it uses Kontakt to run. You'll also need an amp-simulating software, like Guitar Rig 5. If needing all of that's a turn-off, sorry impactsoundworks.com/products/guitar-and-bass/shreddage-2-absolute-electric-guitar/Here's a demo of it:

youtu.be/SkWEGuiHt-UIf you really want to make hardstyle and cannot make a Hard Kick nomatter how hard you try like me, I found this pack of samples. If the pitch isnt right you can always tweak it by clicking on the instrument in the pattern maker thingy there is a pitch knob in there somewhere xD That is, if you use FL not sure about other DAWs
