I know, there's an obvious answer most of you will choose.
Both of these themes have a commonality between them though. Both of them were played when some Pokémon was pushing some other Pokémon into a portal.
You might know Through the Sea of Time as "Determination" or "Grovyle's Sacrifice". You could call A Friend's Decision "Emolga's Sacrifice" if you want.
Which one do you prefer?
Through The Sea Of Time
A Friend's Decision

My preference is the typical purist choice of Through the Sea of Time; but wait, before you shoot me with your anti-elitism tasers, I can explain! I went with Through the Sea of Time because of the multiple instances--not just with Grovyle, but also the scene the song's title is actually coined after--it creates nostalgia for.
There's a charm in the DS PMD games' soundfont that never fails to reignite the euphoria I get from each of those memories of way-back-when I played EoT.
GTI's got a killer soundtrack, but I just don't think it's been long enough in my mind for it to generate the same nostalgia value to compete.

I actually kinda like both on different merits, but overall A Friend's Decision works better in my opinion. The sound quality does make a difference, plus the orchestration hits home and is pretty epic (especially that part with the key change)--whereas the original Through the Sea of Time feels fairly empty by comparison.
Of course, though, if we were to include remixes and re-orchestrations, Through the Sea of Time would win for sure, thanks to nostalgia. Yet at the same time it's so overexposed compared to most of the GTI music (since so many people who played Explorers have nostalgia for it), which means it's easy to get sick of it. <_<

You get people in the YouTube comment boxes always negatively comparing GTI to EoT/D/S and RRT/BRT because they're grumpy about OH NO 3D MODELS AND ORCHESTRAL MUSIC THAT ARE HIGHER QUALITY WE'RE ALL DOOMED. GTI's soundtrack has its own charm, just as the other soundtracks did--yet so many people who preferred Explorers pretend it doesn't exist. Some time last week, I was listening to Telluric Path for the first time in a while, and it suddenly hit me with a huge nostalgia bomb. Same followed when I listened to a lot of the other tracks. All the PMD games have pretty awesome soundtracks, but if you spew any single track over and over again, people will get sick of it. Kilionea Road, Scorching Desert, and Crags of Lament Interior are pretty cool.

The other "Glacial Spire"s are also great. The Holehills are great for their buildup. The theme of hope is great too. Don't forget "Dreams and Hopes" and "Sympathy and Sincerity" too I just go to try to find a remix of these themes, and NOTHING! I swear I'll give these pieces attention if I ever learn music One thing I do find about GTI themes maybe is that they have more of a buildup in their loops, so they are hard to be catchy.

Kilionea Road, Scorching Desert, and Crags of Lament Interior are pretty cool.I don't think that's exactly what's going on.. The GTI soundtrack tends to be more ambient in general, and focused over a certain genre more than its predecessors. While the previous games had this tendency to break the mold, and go from folk-ish(Treasure town) music to jazz, to waltz(Apple wood, maybe northern desert), to "rock"(Amp plains, Craggy coast, etc), etc.. It tried to surprise a lot. The more ambient approach is a significantly different way to make a soundtrack, one that can easily appear to be duller and repetitive, IMO. It being different, and attempting to be more low-key is probably part of what turned-off fans of the previous games. And its not because something has its own charm that people will appreciate it. For example, my favorite pokemon gets constantly shat on, when the occasion arises, by a good part of the pokemon community, even though it has its own charm. Speaking of the soundtrack for GTI, I'm almost done with my playthrough, and the music for daybreak ridge sounds a lot like "Mars, the bringer of war" : youtu.be/rZHHKqQFCZ8?t=23syoutu.be/L0bcRCCg01I?t=1m26sIt felt really weird playing that level.. :/ And, while we're at it, one of the thing that annoys me the most right now in the GTI soundtrack is those 6 xylophone notes that are in way too many tracks.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7D6eAC6CNw The very first 6 notes in this for example. I don't even know why, but it annoys me so much.. :/

Yeah, I noticed those too. I tend to think its a bit unnecessary though XD Usually when you have recurring themes you give them some kind of meaning. Like in PMD2, the time gear melody is always played when there is stuff related to time gears happening, and that in several different tracks. Etc.. Otherwise there's no meaning linked to them, so all that's left is the repetition (Well unless maybe there's something else about recurring themes I'm missing?) With that said, I love a lot of tracks from GTI, but I can definitely see why people might be turned off about it. (After playing through most of it, I even understand better what's the issues with the gameplay itself too..) (I'll admit that I'm hoping the PSMD soundtrack will go for some more variety soundtrack-wise. ) (If a miracle would happen and mr. Iiyoshi would come back that would be awesome XD But the music I heard during the Nintendo Treehouse gameplay video didn't sound too promising, I mean, it doesn't really sound like something he'd do. )

You heard it? I couldn't hear it over the guy talking. Also, possibly, we're getting remade music, not just originals like GTI. Remember the maps? The same dungeons and music might be remade.

If you're not a follower of the PMD subreddit or are not over analyzing the trailer, The regions of the new game seem to be near identical to past games. Here is a picture. So, thus there might be places brought back from past games and re-done themes to go with them

I thought the PMD subbreddit was pretty much dead XD And I wish the gif wouldn't blink, so I can actually see anything But that's plausible I guess.
