So, I'm going to be very predictable but: I drew this early last year. It took me 3 days+. Not happy with the coloring, dirty lineart, and the anatomy. ^^; Its based off that sticker 3 right, 4 down on this page : pokescans.tumblr.com/post/31383135797/pokemon-amada-stickers-from-japan-i-have-at-least That's why its standing up like that. I'd like to improve, and to actually draw, but it seems the second I begin drawing everything wants to get me off.. XD And I absolutely hate people looking at me while I'm drawing/doing anything really for some reasons, which complicate things even more...

Your texturization and shading has lit my eyes ablaze-- I need sunglasses to handle this level of cool. Seriously though, the way you textured this makes it pleasant to look at. Also, I know the feels of losing motivation and people watching me while drawing, it's totally normal. Props for the 3+ days, I don't often have that level of motivation when I draw.

Wow thats amazing! I can't draw for my life but wish I could. The best I can do are stick figures lol.

Hehe, usually its not a good thing to make things too flashy though XD Contrasts are pretty much what give life to a drawing! But thanks And honestly, I don't usually have that much commitment either. I guess I was in a drawing mood or something. I think I hadn't drawn in at least 6++ months when I did that.. Though the trade-off was that it took incredibly long to do it! I can't count how many times I re-drew big chunks of it to get that result. I even ended up having to re-color everything several times over because of dumb mistakes.. At the end I just said, "ok, good enough" XD Wow thats amazing! I can't draw for my life but wish I could. The best I can do are stick figures lol. Thanks But you know, nobody just draws something like that directly! Well, unless you're really experienced, like those people using felt pen to draw caricatures for example.. It all begins with exactly what you mentioned, a stick figure! Basically, you just add stuff around your stick figure. For example, here's what it looked like for me (overlayed over the rest): It doesn't match up with the drawing very well, because I made a lot of tweaking after I got rid of the skeleton. The head was basically a big "ovoid". And I also drew a reference skeleton over the reference picture to help figuring where everything is. But really, the thing that makes all the difference between drawing stick figures and full characters is working with proportions. I personally use the eye's length as reference length. So lets say you can fit 3 times and a half the poochyena's eye between the tip of its snout and the back of its head, in the reference image. Considering this, when you draw the pooch, you'll begin with the eye. And then you'll take the length of the eye you just drew, and use that eye length to draw the tip of the snout 3 and a half eye lengths away from the back of the head. So essentially, you've just made yourself a very simple, but effective, reference scale! That way you keep things "always" in proportions ! Of course, you probably don't want to draw the tip of the nose and the back of the head right after drawing the eye, or its going to be hard to measure things against each-others XD You'll want to measure distances from the eye at first, making up a Cartesian system(x,y) in your mind where the unit is in poochyena eyes! Like say ( -3, 1.25 ) or 3 eyes left, 1 and a quarter eye up. Something like that! No need to write it down though XD You could also think of it as if you were using a drawing compass to draw the first mark of the next feature you want to draw, with one leg on an existing feature, and the pencil leg where you'll leave your mark. The distance between both legs of the compass being the distance, in poochyena eyes, you'd have counted before using the above tip. It doesn't need to be perfect in either way. Anyways, I don't know if you were actually looking for advice. But I know that I wish someone would have told me that before I had to make my own research! XD
