Ya, the demo version comes with a couple of plugins and some of which are demos themselves. Good ones to work with would be Harmor, Sytrus, and 3xosc.

For most of them you'll need either VSTs specifically designed for the instrument you want or some sort of VST to play soundfonts. Alchemy Player is good and plays SFZs, I'm sure there are plenty others that can play SF2s. Then you'll need some soundfonts for the instruments you want, and there are literally tens of thousands of soundfonts all over the internet that are free to download.

I wish there were a VAW for Windows that had as nice of an interface as Garageband with the power of FL and was open source. That's a lot to wish for, but man is it much needed... Well, I have seen people customise FL...so perhaps look up a tutorial on how to do so? I sort of think all DAWs look the same, just in different colour schemes. Once you get used to producing music, they all sort of blur together (at least they do for me).

Garageband's piano roll editor is really nice and its interface is fluid and meant for use on a Mac trackpad (unlike most VAWs which use two mouse buttons...). FL's also technically "not free"

FL's also technically "not free" I never said FL was free. It has a free demo though, which does have all the features of the full version (please someone, correct me if I was wrong there) so I don't quite understand you there. I can't really defend FL's piano roll, because of my lack of experience with it, but I think everything feels a bit clunky as a newcomer! If you gave it some time, I'm sure you'd find it has it's benefits! All piano rolls are kind of alike, so just remember that practice will make everything more comfortable!

It might not be THAT far-fetched : lmms.io/I've used LMMS but it's relatively lacking in functionality and its interface is pretty awkward to use. Of course, it's open source so I could work on improving it if I had the time, but that requires, well, having the time...

What about Ardour then ? ardour.org/Its linux and osx, but it probably runs decently on windows, in a VM, with hardware virtualization enabled ? But yeah, you probably don't want to get into modifying their source to tweak the interface and etc. I actually took a look at how they did it a few years ago, because my end of semester project was coding a simple DAW, with a midi sequencer and VST plugin support.( which ended up being a total fiasco btw XD ) I think I just looked elsewhere for examples and info, after seeing how it was all organized ^^;

I look around and sometimes hear someone say audacity. Is that a possible remixing software? How does it compare to the other things, like FL Studio? I like freeware

I like freeware Audacity is just waveform editing software. It can't really create more than a basic sine wave by itself; it's more for editing out static or trimming a sound effect. It's basically a completely different software category from FL Studio or other DAWs/VAWs (still don't know if there's a difference between those acronyms)

I had looked into the same thing in the past (before I got interested into the Mystery Dungeon music as much as I am now). I just haven't given myself the chance at this yet. I do plan to give a try at editing one day, but as it stands right now I think my computer is on it's last stand. Hopefully, with time, I can buy a much better computer for whatever purposes I want. Whether that be gaming, editing, or what I do want to give FL a shot one day. Other than that it's just finding the MIDI files that I would need (which are probably gonna be pretty easy to find).
It's good to find a discussion going on about it though! Something to look back on in case I ever need help or tip! I'll have a place to look and ask for help whenever that happens too =D
