I say Gen 4 had the best music. Extremely diverse and really jazzy. I liked it a lot.

6th gen: That Pokemon trading card game online exclusive music is great. It was created during the 6th gen too!

Generation 3, especially OR/AS's remixes. I love brass and strings and my gosh did they outdo themselves in that regard in Hoenn. My fangame will have a lot of woodwind and strings and I'm going to incorporate some brass too, all inspired by Hoenn of course. HG/SS had some good music too, especially the Route 47/48 theme which is phenomenal.

Hoenn's is awesome. It feels like an epic adventure, like a very foreign land, mysterious! And the timpani drums! The Gym battle track sumsitupnicely!
(When I heard the gym leader battle in ORAS I had an eargasm. Its one of the only battle track that preserved most of the original feel IMO!)

Gen IV DPPt
Battle themes are overall okay, but it has some great town, route, and area themes. I don't dislike any songs from its OST.

Through the quirks, the struggles, and the occasional bomb, each generation gave us many gems to listen to. I can't just choose one, dang it!
